About
Esther Kverno (1997) is a Norwegian composer and pianist based in Oslo.
She holds two Bachelor’s degrees: one in composition from the Norwegian Academy of Music, and one in jazz performance from the University of Stavanger, where she is currently completing a Master’s degree through the free Master's programme (Det Frie masterstudiet), set to be completed in spring 2027.
Kverno is active both as a composer and performer. Her work spans a wide range of formats and genres, with music written for string quartet, sinfonietta, jazz trio, percussion duo, dance, and mixed ensembles. Drawing from her dual background in improvisation and composition, she explores contrasts in structure, texture, and musical language — often working in the space between notation and freedom.
Her artistic practice is driven by a curiosity for form and sound, and by a desire to create music that invites both performers and listeners into a focused, imaginative space.
