About
Esther Kverno (1997) is a Norwegian composer and pianist based in Oslo.
She holds two Bachelor’s degrees: one in jazz performance from the University of Stavanger, and one in composition from the Norwegian Academy of Music, where she is currently completing a Master’s degree through the free Master's programme (Det Frie masterstudiet), set to be completed in spring 2027.
Kverno is active both as a composer and performer. Her work spans a wide range of formats, from large ensembles and orchestral-sized groups to intimate duo and solo settings, as well as interdisciplinary projects. Drawing from her dual background in improvisation and composition, she explores contrasts in structure, texture, and musical language — often working in the space between notation and freedom. Alongside her work as a composer, she is an active performer and bandleader in her own projects, including E.K.O. (Esther Kverno Orkester), Esther Kverno Trio, and Ella & Esther (voice and piano).
Her artistic practice is driven by a curiosity for form and sound, and by a desire to create music that invites both performers and listeners into a focused, imaginative space.
